Weekend Happenin’s

20070813 11:02

The weekend was certainly a blessing.

Saturday afternoon, my MIL picked up the munchkins for an overnighter. After closing the restaurant, Hubby and I called up our friend John, who was holed up in his apartment watching television and eating chicken his lovely wife had prepared before heading to Baton Rouge to see her family.

We all claimed we were not really hungry, but the idea of dessert sounded pretty good. We ran through the list of restaurants and decided on Ihop. Of course, once there, the pictures of stacked pancakes drizzled with syrup, fluffy scrambled eggs, and stuffed french toast topped with strawberries and whipped cream tempted us into ordering actual meals instead. (And, for people who “weren’t really hungry”… we sure cleaned our plates!)

We were having great conversation, as we always do with John and Ashley, even if one of them is missing, so we decided to go back to our house and continue on.

John really missed his wife, as did we. It is so nice to see a man who genuinely loves his wife and desires to be with her, around her, and who doesn’t really want to be away from her. They haven’t been married a year yet, so some would claim this is merely the way of newlyweds but…. I disagree. I still feel that way about my husband. In fact, I miss him when he’s gone, even if it’s just because he’s at work. I love to spend time with him, even if we are just sitting on the couch together or browsing through books at opposite ends of the bookstore. Just knowing he’s there, right there, if I want to tell him something, look at him, love on him… it’s just… nice (for lack of a better word in my limited morning vocabulary).

Anywho, the hours slipped away, and before we knew it 2am happened upon us. We asked John if he’d like to stay the night and go to church with us in the morning. I went to bed at that time, while the two men stayed up and talked until 3am.

We had shared much laughter (mainly at the expense of John, poor fella) and even more Christian fellowship. John and Ashley are very uplifting people, very encouraging- even if they don’t mean to be. I feel Ashley and I have a lot in common, and I know John and my husband get along very well. We all have a hard time separating ourselves when we get together. It’s nice to have friends like that.

Sunday evening we went to the service at John’s church. The message was about rebuilding, and the main scripture was from the first 11 verses of Ezra. The pastor was speaking about how God can use even the wreckage to rebuild our lives. Nothing is beyond “repair” when it comes to God. He can rebuild our relationships, marriages, families, careers……

Sometimes he uses good experiences to rebuild us. Sometimes he takes the pieces of what is left of bad experiences to mold us. Whatever the case, wherever we are, whatever needs to be mended CAN be.

God was definitely glorified in the message, a message which I can’t exactly describe at this moment. (Again, too early for my brain to function that well!)

After the evening service, we all ate at McAlister’s (mmm, spuds) and then headed home where John helped me piece together a song I had written nearly a year ago. I had a very basic tune and wanted to really glorify God through the music in the piece, but my piano skills are not quite to that level. It didn’t take long before we had a beautiful, powerful worship and praise song. I cannot wait to record it.

Today should be fairly eventful. My husband is finally getting the registration on my van changed over to this state (after a year… we’re such procrastinators!). We really only need one vehicle these days, and the truck will definitely not be suitable for a family of five. There is no way we can fit three carseats in the back, and besides, the van is easier on me. I just love that I can push a little button on my key ring and have the side doors slide open as if by magic. Plus, it’s much more roomy.

Well, my computer is a little bit nutty. No websites are coming up (at least, not my blog and various other sites I visit regularly), so I’m writing this in Word and will be posting it later. I hope you all have a fabulous week (which reminds me, I’m 37 weeks pregnant today!). God bless!
