I heard someone say this weekend, "Don't show me a 4 yo that can read, but show me an adult/older child that has a love of reading/learning." It really doesn't matter when they learn to read, but that they develop the love of reading. Someone that doesn't read is as good off as someone that doesn't read.

I agree with you and this was my thinking until I started to panic. Then I forced my dd to have reading instruction and it has been disastrous. Trust in the Lord, expose your kids to literature and other forms and of writing and hope that they get it. We're still working on stuff that I introduced a year ago. It's like potty training, just wait until they are truly ready and show an interest and it will take a lot less time and tears!! My son will not be getting any formal reading instruction until he truly shows an interest and excitement about it. Hopefully, he won't be ten when he decides this!

Blessings,
