Our living area
20080621 14:49My parents bought new livingroom furniture and gave us their old stuff (which really isn’t that old at all… the pieces range from about six years to one year old). We were able to blend our existing furniture with the new stuff quite well!

The tan chair in the corner was one of theirs. It is SO cozy! When we stayed the night at their condo, I would sleep on it!

My husband built the cabinets housing our television. The piano came from my husband’s Mimi (who passed away a couple years ago). The paintings, I made. The lamp… is from my parents.

My computer is over there on the left side of the door (the side door, which leads to the side yard where there is nothing to see). Eventually, I’d like to put in a nicer door, one which lets in light. My computer is on an old sewing table/desk. I’m working on a wall treatment (which is finished, above the loveseat, but has not been complete on the other side of the door). The loveseat was also theirs, and is fairly new (about a year old). The striped chair, in the right side of the picture, was also from my husband’s Mimi’s home. I don’t know what to do with it, so it sits next to the wine cabinet (which does not house wine. The drawers keep my nice utensils, and the cabinets underneath hold pictures, paper, and other stuff. I did not take a picture of it. I took this picture standing in the kitchen (which needs cleaning.. and that is why there is not a picture of it).

The wine cabinet use to be on the wall straight ahead, but I had been wanting to switch it to the other side of the sliding glass door so it would be closer to the kitchen. The wall is bare with just that one frame, but it works for now. The clock is from Mimi’s house as well, but is broken (it toppled over when the kids were playing with it, so now it is not only broken, but nailed to the wall). The corner shelving is from my parents. The little recliner is a kid sized chair, a gift for my daughter when she was a toddler. The wicker chairs and the wicker chest are from Pier One. I do not recommend wicker chairs for people with kids.. at least, not this kind. (I just realized, the sheer curtains use to be in my parent’s apartment, when they first moved out of their house and wanted to try out “Houston living”.)

My parents bought the wingback chairs (recliners) when I moved out of their house (they redid a lot of things once us critters were gone). I LOVE them. Nice to have recliners that don’t take up too much space! Our leather couch is from Ashley. And, the side table is something my dad found in the trash a while back.
I just realized, so much of our stuff comes from my parents!! That frame in the left side of the picture (on the wall) is a wedding picture- also an anniversary gift from my parents! I think my mom has bought most of the frames in my house. She’s pretty frame/picture happy.
