The kids designed this “bus” and asked me to be the driver! We had fun pretending to drive through town and singing, “The wheels on the bus go ’round and ’round..”

Our living area http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/06/21/our-living-area/ http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/06/21/our-living-area/#comments Sat, 21 Jun 2008 14:49:52 +0000 Administrator home & garden http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/06/21/our-living-area/ My parents bought new livingroom furniture and gave us their old stuff (which really isn’t that old at all… the pieces range from about six years to one year old).  We were able to blend our existing furniture with the new stuff quite well!

ourhomeJune08b.jpg
The tan chair in the corner was one of theirs.  It is SO cozy! When we stayed the night at their condo, I would sleep on it!

ourhomeJune08a.jpg
My husband built the cabinets housing our television.  The piano came from my husband’s Mimi (who passed away a couple years ago).  The paintings, I made.  The lamp… is from my parents.

ourhomeJune08c.jpg
My computer is over there on the left side of the door (the side door, which leads to the side yard where there is nothing to see).  Eventually, I’d like to put in a nicer door, one which lets in light.  My computer is on an old sewing table/desk.  I’m working on a wall treatment (which is finished, above the loveseat, but has not been complete on the other side of the door). The loveseat was also theirs, and is fairly new (about a year old).  The striped chair, in the right side of the picture, was also from my husband’s Mimi’s home.  I don’t know what to do with it, so it sits next to the wine cabinet (which does not house wine. The drawers keep my nice utensils, and the cabinets underneath hold pictures, paper, and other stuff.  I did not take a picture of it.  I took this picture standing in the kitchen (which needs cleaning.. and that is why there is not a picture of it).

ourhomeJune08d.jpg
The wine cabinet use to be on the wall straight ahead, but I had been wanting to switch it to the other side of the sliding glass door so it would be closer to the kitchen.  The wall is bare with just that one frame, but it works for now.  The clock is from Mimi’s house as well, but is broken (it toppled over when the kids were playing with it, so now it is not only broken, but nailed to the wall).  The corner shelving is from my parents.  The little recliner is a kid sized chair, a gift for my daughter when she was a toddler.  The wicker chairs and the wicker chest are from Pier One.  I do not recommend wicker chairs for people with kids.. at least, not this kind.  (I just realized, the sheer curtains use to be in my parent’s apartment, when they first moved out of their house and wanted to try out “Houston living”.)

ourhomeJune08e.jpg
My parents bought the wingback chairs (recliners) when I moved out of their house (they redid a lot of things once us critters were gone).  I LOVE them.  Nice to have recliners that don’t take up too much space!  Our leather couch is from Ashley.  And, the side table is something my dad found in the trash a while back.

I just realized, so much of our stuff comes from my parents!!  That frame in the left side of the picture (on the wall) is a wedding picture- also an anniversary gift from my parents!  I think my mom has bought most of the frames in my house.  She’s pretty frame/picture happy. :)

It may not be the prettiest garden, but it works!
My husband had leftover soil from a job he did, and was able to find some old bins hanging around the restaurant.  All we had to pay for was the plants, which were super cheap!  I’m excited to have all these fresh herbs at my fingertips!

Back where I was before. http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/22/back-where-i-was-before/ http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/22/back-where-i-was-before/#comments Thu, 22 May 2008 01:23:09 +0000 Administrator family http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/22/back-where-i-was-before/ About this time of year six years ago, I moved to Louisiana to be closer to my fiance, Brandon.  A lot has happened since then (like seven more moves, three children, several pets…).  Six years ago, I was taking a huge step in leaving my childhood home, wandering out from under my parents’ wings, and getting a “real job” in order to pay my “real bills”.  I remember how cool it felt to write out checks to pay my bills. Now.. ha, not so much!

I am so thankful God led us to each other.  Marriage will never be without it’s struggles (and we’ve had plenty), but I am thankful for the lessons we’ve learned.  Sometimes the situations and events which bring about wisdom and fruit are not circumstances we enjoy or are proud of, but it’s not just victory that brings strength, failures can too!

Here’s to love, to the one I love, and to Him who IS Love: God.

Wedding Bells http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/10/wedding-bells/ http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/10/wedding-bells/#comments Sat, 10 May 2008 21:20:19 +0000 Administrator Blast Back Saturdays http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/10/wedding-bells/ The first wedding I was in was my cousins.  I was her flower girl, and let me tell you, I thought I was pretty darn cool.  I was so thrilled.  My grandmother made my dress, and after the wedding, trimmed the back up so I could wear it to church.

I thought my cousin, Renita, looked like Barbie, and her husband, Scott, was definitely a handsome Ken!

Oh, by the way, it was the ’90’s….

in case you had trouble figuring that out!

Baby comparison http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/07/baby-comparison/ http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/07/baby-comparison/#comments Wed, 07 May 2008 14:16:12 +0000 Administrator family http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/05/07/baby-comparison/ I’ve been asked to post baby pictures of Merika and Nolyn to see who Keagiebaby resembles.  Personally, I feel Keagie looks like Merika, except he has a slightly bigger nose.  Nolyn had such a round face and an upturned nose and was definitely a chunkier baby than my other two.  Keagie’s structure (and the fact that he’s thin) reminds me of Merika.  I wish I could find this one photo of Merika that looks exactly like this other photo I have of Keagan!

Mandy Made: Shir crazy! http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/04/02/mandy-made-shir-crazy/ http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/04/02/mandy-made-shir-crazy/#comments Wed, 02 Apr 2008 19:08:56 +0000 Administrator wordless wednesday Mandy Made sewing http://mandymom.com/photos/2008/04/02/mandy-made-shir-crazy/ It’s (not-so) Wordless Wednesday!

I’ve been sewing, trying to perfect the shirring technique.  Now, I didn’t do this the way it’s usually done because I didn’t have the right size of elastic, but I did get the desired effect, even if it took more effort.

This is the second dress I’ve made, so.. hey, I think it’s decent for someone who’s inexperiences in dress making! (Now aprons? Pillows? Purses? I can do that for sure!)
